As appropriate to gas usage, at the end of the Workshop delegates will:

  • Have established their current level of knowledge.
  • Understand the common properties of all gases in use.
  • Have a detailed knowledge of the hazards of the gases they use & their safety implications.
  • Know how to identify cylinder gases correctly.
  • Understand the relationships between Pressure, Volume & Temperature of gases in sealed containers.
  • Know the definition & hazards of pressure & its relevance to cylinder & pipework/hose construction with special reference to safety relief devices.
  • Understand the effects of Oxygen deficient & enriched atmospheres, with particular reference to confined spaces.
  • Understand the hazards of compressed Oxygen when exposed to contamination with oil-based substances.
  • Understand the emergency procedures for the gases in use.
  • Know basic First Aid treatment for gas related incidents.
  • Know how to handle gas cylinders safely & correctly, & the hazards associated with incorrect manual handling of gas cylinders.
  • Understand the basic requirements for the safe storage of gas cylinders.
  • Know the correct Personal Protective Equipment to wear.
  • Know the requirements for safety inspections of equipment derived from current legislation & industry Codes of Practice.
  • Be able to carry out safe & thorough leak detection.
  • Understand the requirements for safe transportation of gas cylinders in vehicles.

As appropriate to gas usage, delegates will receive practical instruction in:

  • Cylinder Identification
  • Regulator Fitting & changing cylinders
  • Manual Handling of gas cylinders
  • Leak Checking
  • Wearing of PPE
  • Before-use, start up, & shut down
  • safety checks of relevant gas equipment.
  • Step by step instruction on annual inspection procedures.
  • Manifold operation, checks & cylinder changeover.
  • Vessel & Dewar decant procedures
